Microchipping

Losing track of a beloved companion is every pet parent’s worst nightmare.

According to PetFinder, over 10 million pets go missing every year, and one in three pets will go missing at some point in their life. Even the best fences and training can’t keep dogs and cats indoors or in your backyard at all times, and it only takes mere seconds for disaster to strike and your pet to escape. Having your pet microchipped is the best thing that you can do to increase your chances of being reunited with your canine or feline companion if you ever become separated. At Pressly Animal Hospital, we believe that microchipping is an important part of pet ownership. Having worked with many rescues, we’ve witnessed firsthand what can happen when an unchipped pet leaves home. For this reason, we offer affordable microchipping in Matthews and Indian Trail to help you keep your companions safe.

Microchipping: How it Works

Microchipping is much simpler than many people realize. In fact, the procedure takes just a few seconds. A chip that is roughly the size of a grain of rice is injected under your pet’s skin between the shoulder blades using a needle. Your pet experiences little to no pain, and the process is over as quickly as it begins.

Your pet’s chip has a unique identification number, which you can use to set up an account and register the chip. When registering, you provide your pet’s name along with your name and contact information. This information is not stored directly on the chip. Instead, it is stored in your account, which is accessed when a vet, shelter, or animal rescuer scans the chip. This information must be kept up-to-date at all times to ensure that someone can get in touch with you if they find your pet.

Microchipping in Matthews and Indian Trail

Even the most well-behaved pets can get separated from their owners for a multitude of reasons. They could get frightened and run away during a thunderstorm or fireworks, escape following a car accident, or simply wander a bit too far when chasing a squirrel. Whatever the situation may be, having your pet microchipped is the best way to ensure that you and your pet will be reunited if you ever become separated.
